Wind Resource Assessment

With expert knowledge of wake and blockage modelling, validation bases and application experience, NewSky Consulting can support your capability development and project application needs.
Independence, Capability and Experience
Aerodynamic interactions between wind turbines within an array, or between arrays, is an important topic in wind engineering. Wake losses directly impact yield, and are estimated by modelling how atmospheric interactions spread wake deficits and replenish the energy removed by turbines. Wakes also contribute to wake turbulence, increasing fatigue loads at downwind turbines. Blockage alters the pattern of production through a farm by setting up non-uniform pressure fields due to the obstruction effect of the turbines and complex interactions with the atmospheric boundary layer.

NewSky Consulting staff have worked at the forefront of wake assessment modelling and analysis, and blockage modelling, for many years. We have developed new models, assessed all of the most-used models, and championed transparent validation. We play our part in reducing uncertainty estimates and standing up new offshore wind projects. With our profound understanding of the wakes and blockage modelling state of the art, including wind farm to wind farm effects, we are very well placed to assist in the project and capability development needs of offshore wind farm developers.
